Misano Adriatico is the closest resort to Riccione, just 5 km to the south. Small, quiet and with 3 km of equipped beach, it is known worldwide for two things: the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, where the San Marino MotoGP Grand Prix takes place, and the Portoverde marina, a leisure harbour with a Mediterranean feel. Add the Oasi faunistica del Conca for birdwatching and a food scene that ranges from Adriatic fish to DOP olive oil from the hills, and you have a destination that deserves a full day, or simply a bike ride from your hotel in Riccione.

How to get to Misano Adriatico from Riccione

Misano is so close to Riccione that the boundary between the two is almost invisible. By car it takes just 8 minutes along the SS16 Adriatica towards Cattolica. By bike it is even better: the seafront cycle path connects the two beaches in around 15 minutes on a flat and protected route, suitable for families with children too. By bus, line 125 from Start Romagna covers the journey with frequent services during the summer season.

To reach the Misano World Circuit, note that the track is inland in the Santamonica area, about 3 km from the coast. By car, take the SS16 and turn into Via del Carro. On race weekends traffic is heavy: the car parks around the circuit are colour-coded by ticket sector, and arriving early is strongly recommended.

Misano's beaches: 3 km of family-friendly coastline

Misano's beach stretches for 3 km and is organised into 48 beach clubs. Compared to the buzz of Riccione, the atmosphere here is more relaxed and family-oriented. Many clubs offer seafront swimming pools, heated whirlpools, children's play areas and entertainment services. There are also accessible beach sections for guests with disabilities and pet-friendly beaches.

The entire seafront is pedestrian and cycle only: no cars, no dangerous crossings, a detail that families with young children particularly appreciate. At Portoverde, the southern end of Misano, the beach sits next to the Blue Paradise Beach Pool, a municipal facility with a 25-metre Olympic pool looking directly onto the sea, a fitness pool and a children's area. It is open daily from late May to early September.

Portoverde: sunset aperitivo on the marina

The Portoverde marina in Misano Adriatico, a leisure harbour with restaurants and Mediterranean-style buildings

Portoverde is the scenic heart of Misano: a circular leisure harbour with two piers that can berth up to 350 boats. All around, white Mediterranean-style buildings house restaurants, bars, shops and gelaterias. This is not a working port but a place designed for strolling, dining with a sea view and enjoying the sunset with a drink in hand.

The best time to visit Portoverde is the late afternoon: a walk along the marina, a sunset aperitivo at one of the bars overlooking the boats, then dinner at a fish restaurant. Among the most popular spots on the marina: La Banchina (fresh fish, rated 9.6 on TheFork), La Darsena (seafood with terrace) and Osteria al Gambero Sbronzo (on the beach, excellent raw fish and laid-back atmosphere).

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, a 4,226-metre track that hosts MotoGP

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is one of the most important motorsport circuits in Europe. The main track is 4,226 metres long and 12 metres wide, with 16 iconic corners including the Brutapela, the Quercia and the Tramonto curve. Alongside the main circuit there is a flat track (235-755 m) and an 827 m kart track. The circuit is named after Marco Simoncelli, the Romagna-born rider who died in 2011, and is a symbol of the Emilia-Romagna Motor Valley.

The headline event is the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix, a round of the MotoGP World Championship traditionally held in September (in 2026: 11-13 September). But the calendar is packed all year: WorldSBK (Superbike) in June, the CIV (Italian Speed Championship), the European Truck Racing Championship and various events such as the Italian Bike Festival (which in 2025 recorded over 63,000 visitors in three days) and the EICMA Riding Fest.

The circuit can also be visited outside race weekends. Guided tours last around 58 minutes and include the paddock, garages, pit lane, race control room and podium, all the places you normally only see on TV. After the tour you can ride the track by e-bike (€10 supplement). For those who want to get behind the wheel, the GuidarePilotare advanced driving school runs on-track courses open to everyone. The Oasi faunistica del Conca: birdwatching steps from the sea

Just minutes from the beach, the Oasi faunistica del Conca is a protected area of 702 hectares along the Conca stream, established in 1991 by the Province of Rimini. It is an unexpected find for anyone who associates Misano only with the sea and motorsport: a system of wetlands, woodlands and ponds where dozens of species of waterbirds nest.

The birdwatching observatory, on the left bank of the artificial basin, is fitted with wooden slits for discreet observation. Species you may spot include white and black stork, great white egret, spoonbill, pelican, kingfisher and red-backed shrike. Binoculars are available on request at the facility.

Access is free of charge, all year round. From the SS16, turn into Via del Carro towards the Santamonica racetrack, then left onto Via Sant'Ilario to the car park. From there it is 150 metres on foot to the observatory. Cycle and pedestrian paths along both banks of the Conca allow you to explore the reserve by bike, a perfect outing to combine with a morning at the beach.

Where to eat in Misano Adriatico

Misano has a more intimate food scene than neighbouring Riccione and Rimini, but with restaurants that are worth the trip. The cuisine is coastal Romagna: mixed Adriatic grill (locally called "rustida"), marinated saraghina served with warm piadina, clam risotto, seafood tagliolini and of course piadina in every filling imaginable.

Restaurants cluster in two areas: the seafront and the Portoverde marina. On the seafront, Le Vele (Via Litoranea Sud 71) serves fish with homemade pasta and bread and a wine list of 110 labels. Moi Ristorante (beach club 4) is a lounge & beach bar with seafood and cocktails. Osteria Mej ad Gnint (Via Litoranea Nord 32) offers seafood starters on the beach in a relaxed setting.

At Portoverde, in addition to the already mentioned La Banchina and La Darsena, Ristorante Paradise (Via dei Gigli 11) deserves a mention, where the chef reimagines traditional fish dishes in a relaxed setting just metres from the beach. For something different, Taverna dei Re is a well-regarded osteria-pizzeria, and Alla Stazione (Viale della Repubblica 63) surprises with a garden where you dine inside vintage train carriages.

For a high-end gastronomic experience, it is worth knowing that just a few kilometres from Misano you will find Abocar Due Cucine, a Michelin-starred restaurant blending Italian and Argentinian cuisine.

Evenings in Misano: hillside clubs and beachside venues

Misano at night offers two sides. On the beach, venues such as Follia Beach and the seafront bars serve aperitivi, music and dinners with your feet in the sand, ideal for a relaxed evening. But the real nightlife scene is on the inland hills, home to some of the most iconic nightclubs on the Romagna riviera.

Peter Pan and Villa delle Rose are just minutes from Misano and part of the club circuit that has made this coast famous across Europe for its nightlife. On riccione.net you will find the complete guide to riviera nightclubs.

Misano with children

Misano is one of the best choices for families with young children on the Romagna riviera. The fully pedestrian and cycle-only seafront removes any traffic worries, beach clubs offer entertainment and dedicated play areas, and the atmosphere is calmer than in Riccione and Rimini.

Beyond the beach, children can enjoy Parco Mare Nord, a green area with play equipment and space to run, and the inflatable park Paperopoli (trampolines, rides, inflatables). The Blue Paradise Beach Pool at Portoverde has a children's pool with a shallow bottom (30-50 cm) and swimming lessons from age 3. And the larger theme parks are close at hand: the Cattolica Aquarium is 5 minutes away, Aquafan and Oltremare 10 minutes towards Riccione.

For children who love motorsport, the guided tour of the Misano World Circuit is an unforgettable experience: they enter the garages, see the race control room and can even ride the track by e-bike (children under 14 travel on special cargo bikes to be booked in advance).

💡 Practical tips

1. Bike, not car. Misano is 15 minutes by bike from Riccione along the seafront. Bring your bike and use it to get between the beach, Portoverde and the centre too, everything is close and flat.

2. Portoverde at sunset. The best time for the marina is from 6 pm onwards: the light is perfect, the restaurants start opening and the mood is just right for an unhurried aperitivo.

3. On race weekends, book everything. When MotoGP or Superbike is on, Misano fills up. Restaurants, car parks and roads will be busier than usual. If you are not going to the circuit, it is the ideal weekend to explore other destinations such as Gradara or San Marino.

4. The Oasi del Conca early in the morning. For birdwatching, the first hours of the morning are best. Bring binoculars if you have them, otherwise you can borrow a pair at the observatory.

5. DOP olive oil from the hills. In Misano Monte (the hillside part of the municipality), the Oleificio e Azienda Agricola Baffoni produces DOP extra virgin olive oil "Colline di Romagna". If you appreciate good olive oil, it is worth the detour.
