The Palazzo dei Congressi di Riccione, or PalaRiccione as everyone calls it, is that glass and steel structure you can see rising from the town centre. Opened in 2008, it's the leading conference centre on the Romagna Riviera. But calling it just a "conference centre" would be selling it short: inside you'll find modular halls for events from 40 to 2,500 people, a multiplex cinema, shops, a bar and the Riccione City Eye, the highest panoramic terrace in town with a sea view that alone makes the lift ride worthwhile.

What makes PalaRiccione different is where it sits. It's not in an out-of-the-way industrial zone you can only reach by car: it's right in the centre, 50 metres from Viale Ceccarini, 5 minutes on foot from the station and a stone's throw from the sea. If you're in Riccione for a conference, in the evening you walk out of the hall and you're in the heart of the restaurants, piadina stands and nightlife. That's no small detail.

The building: what you'll find inside

The building spans several levels. Two underground floors of parking, a ground floor with a shopping gallery, and on the first floor a reception, bar, cloakroom and relaxation area. On the second floor there are six digital cinema screens: if you're in Riccione for work and want to unwind with a film in the evening, you don't even need to leave the building.

The conference heart is on the third and fourth levels. The star is the Sala Concordia: 1,800 sqm, up to 1,400 seats, with retractable Poltrona Frau armchairs that disappear into the floor in under five minutes. A 1,400-seat hall becomes an empty exhibition space in the time it takes to drink a coffee. On the fourth level are the Polissena, Ginevra, Violante and Costanza rooms, all modular for workshops and parallel sessions.

And then there's the fifth level, the Riccione City Eye. It's the highest covered panoramic terrace in town: 835 sqm surrounded by glass walls with 360-degree views, from the sea to the hills of the Romagna hinterland. It's used for gala dinners, aperitifs and exclusive parties. If you need to organise an event and want a show-stopping moment, bring your guests up here at sunset. It works every time.

💡 "Pro" Tips for a stress-free visit

Whether you're an attendee or an organiser, a few practical tips make all the difference:

1. Arrive by train: Riccione station is on the Bologna-Ancona line and just five minutes' walk away. The Metromare also connects you from Rimini airport. It's far more convenient than driving: no traffic, no parking to hunt for.

2. If you come by car, use the underground car park: On big event days it fills up fast. If the conference starts at 9am, aim to arrive at least half an hour early. Alternatively, the station car park is very close.

3. Eating in the area: Between the in-house bar, Viale Ceccarini just steps away and dozens of restaurants within a few minutes' walk, there's no shortage of options. During lunch breaks at large conferences the nearest restaurants fill up quickly: head out straight away or book ahead. A quick piadina flatbread remains the fastest and most satisfying solution in Romagna.

4. Make the most of the location: If you're here for several days, don't lock yourself in the hotel in the evening. The sea is 250 metres away, Viale Ceccarini comes alive from late afternoon with aperitifs and strolls. In summer you have Aquafan, Oltremare and beach parties. In autumn and winter the Romagna hinterland with villages like Gradara, San Leo and Santarcangelo is half an hour by car.

5. For organisers: Modularity is the key strength. You can go from a 1,400-person plenary to 40-person workshops without changing building. Top-level technical equipment and catering can be set up at the Riccione City Eye with a sea view. For quotes: info@palariccione.com or 0541 474200.

PalaRiccione is proof that business and pleasure can coexist without any compromise. Walk out of a conference, cross the road and you're at the sea. Finish a day's work and have dinner with the best piadina of your life. It's no coincidence that conference-goers in Riccione keep coming back: here the work is taken seriously, but everything else is Romagna. And Romagna never disappoints.
